Key Lime Pie/Phil the Baker on Rt. 27 in Maine

Just got back from a weekend at Boothbay Harbour and must recommend the deliciously tasty and tart Key Lime Pie that can be found at Phil the Baker's on Rt. 27, just outside of Boothbay. The pie is actually made by Mrs. Phil the Baker, and though I was, at first, skeptical of finding good key lime pie so far away from Key West, one taste of Mrs. Phil's pie won me over.

Key lime pies are often overly sweet, and taste mostly of sugar and not much of lime. This pie was perfectly tart, but not too tart, sweet, but not too sweet. It was covered with swirls of fresh whipped creame (not cool whip!) and though the grahamcracker crust was a bit soggy, it was still delicious.

Also at Phil's: lobster rolls, cinnamon buns, tiny blueberry pies, and whoopie pies. All I ate was the key lime pie, but if the rest is half as good, worth checking out!

Happy chow.

Ps they are not open Sunday and they do sell out. We stopped by in the a.m, bought our pie and then Phil the Baker put it in the fridge for us--we stopped by just before closing to pick it up.
