There are some interesting Korean restaurants on Pico. One of them is Keumsan (near Western). It has ten tables and a short menu of mostly unusual items such as marsh snail stew and stuffed chicken with ginseng. The people all work hard. It's a cool place. So I wish I liked the food better. The panchan were not to my liking at all. I don't know if it was a cultural thing or not, but there actually is such a thing as eating too much raw garlic. I got the grilled gizzards. Now gizzards are intrinsically kind of tough and tasteless, so you have to do something with them if you want people to eat them. These particular gizzards were grilled with garlic, green chilis, scallions, and probably something else that I'm not remembering. They were mildly flavorful as a result, but they were still pretty much just gizzards. Walking outside afterward, I'm afraid I found myself becoming quite nauseous, and soon I was preparing to puke my gizzards out in the gutter. At length the nausea faded, and I hung around in the Koreatown Galleria until it was gone. Then I got some very good cookies at the sweet shop there, and all was well once again.
