Who's been to the Kermit Lynch annual Beaujolais Nouveau party? This yr the unveiling of a newborn vintage: 2010. In Paris every year a prize is awarded to the bistro with the best Nouveau.

This year’s Nouveau arrives Thursday, November 18. They'll have bottles and cases for sale, and Café Fanny will pour it by the glass.

Party is: Saturday the 20th. Tents and tables, fire up the grill, give the Nouveau a little chill, and serve the soulful cuisine of chef Christopher Lee.

Saturday, November 20 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The events at Kermit Lynch are lots of fun. The food is around $15 a plate and is usually excellent. (Only one selection by Christopher Lee, but Cafe Fanny has their full menu.) Five or six wines by the glass ($5 - $10) or by the bottle. In this instance most of the wines will probably be the beaujolais noveau. At the Day in Provence a few months ago, Lee made a fish soup I still dream about... There's music.

Note that Nov 20 is Big Game day in Berkeley. You may hit a LOT of traffic coming into Berkeley, though the lines may potentially be shorter at the Kermit Lynch event.

This, they say, is the Beaujolais Nouveau they grew up on, before bananas invaded the scene, before sugar and yeasts and pasteurization and concentration became the norm ..."
