Kee Wah's Double Yolk Mooncake

Last week I stopped by Kee Wah Bakery in Milpitas to pick up a few items and was reminded that mooncake season and the Autumn Festival were upon us. Not much of a mooncake fan, I bought one of the white lotus paste and double egg yolk cakes for $9. Yes, that's pricey but this looked larger and felt heavier to me than others I'd tried. The paste was moderately sweet and velvety, yet not as slick with rich lardiness as the mooncakes of yore. The yolks were a bit brittle on the edges but otherwise not dried out. The pattern on the deep-brown crust was deeply embedded and precise. The crust was thin and almost flakey. Maybe the best mooncake I've had in years.
