Kebab Cafe Update...

Just when you think Ali is resting on his laurels and letting things slip, he pulls miracles out of that little kitchen that restore my hope in humanity.

Saturday night I went with two friends. First off, the tried and true warm artichoke salad was CLEARLY a notch above his usual, and this is one of his best dishes to begin with. The Perfectly lemony, garlicky, artichoky... We got two orders it was so good. I think he did something differently with this batch, but if so, he wasn't talking...

The second app was something new: philo pastry stuffed with spiced beef (cinnamon predominated) and topped with roasted veggies, a combination that worked like a dream! We could have done a double order of this one too, but we were trying to pace ourselves...

Then, the mains: The grilled tillapia was perfectly done, with good smoky flavor and excellent veggies on the side. But the chicken, ah the chicken! This was another new dish for Ali: A quarter chicken stuffed with savory breading, oven-roasted to the point of melting off the bone, topped with -- and this is where the dish went off the charts -- a rich, tart apricot sauce! You can't believe how amazing the flavor of this dish was! Our forks were practically dueling as we devoured the entire plate in about 2 minutes flat! Ali's lamb shank with apricot of a few months ago was excellent too, but this stuffed chicken was something else altogether. Damn!

Get thee to KC quickly and order this dish before it's too late!!!! : )
