I'm curious how this place (Old Town on Fair Oaks between Colorado and Green) compares to other Japanese noodle shops in the LA/OC area.
I went there last week after not having gone for at least a couple of years (not for any particular reason). The only Japanese food I've eaten of this sort recently is either tempura from SanSai (Japanese quasi-fast food) or instant soba noodle bowls from Mitsuwa.
Ordered the combo dish that was half rice/half soup. Got the soba dish with Tokyo style broth, and tempura. The rice part wasn't particularly memorable, but I thought the tempura and soba were excellent. Large, juicy shrimp covered with a thick, tasty batter. The soba noodles had a perfect (in my mind) bite in my mouth. The broth was great too.
The one problem I found was that my clothes reeked of tempura for several days and needed to be aired out.
