Kairakutei in Tustin

Mealcentric | May 3, 200510:51 AM

Went to Kairakutei based on the recommendation of a Japanese diner at Honda-ya. Its a small ramen shop in Tustin, primarily serving families. The place seats about 15 people and there is only one waitress (small place!!). They have a couple of beers on the menu and only one sake.

I got the Tonkotsu ramen and curry rice combo and opted to make it a "hearty potion" for $1.50 more (around $7 total). The ramen was great and had a nice rich, cloudy broth. The noodles were perfectly cooked and had a great mouth feel. Only fault in the ramen was that the pork was a little too lean, but still tastey.

Others at my table got the sesame chicken bento box ($6) and the vegetazble ramen ($5). Both meals were good but not great. The vegetable ramen was actually very refreshing and would make a great light lunch.

Service was very friendly and the restaurant itself, while small, was comfortable and clean.
