Junoon- New Fusion in Palo Alto

Junoon recently opened, we haven't learned how new it is, but it defintely seems brand new.

They specialize in subcontinental fusion. (eg chevre stuffed naan). Interior is slickish, red black theme, lounge like. Appetizers are around $7-10 and entrees are between $15 and $25. The drinks seem to be around $7.50 to $12. Didn't check the wine list.

We didnt' get a chance to sample much, but two good dishes were a lamb kebab appetizer with some lackadaiscal roti and a chicken entree that tasted like butter chicken with a twist. The latter was a real hit. The goat cheese naan was dismal and didn't taste remotely like naan. The goat cheese flavor was somehow lost as well.

Service definitely can be improved as they forgot our drinks once and had to come by twice to relearn our drink order afterwards. Our server also didn't know that that they had they type of gin we wanted until we pointed it out to him at the bar. Later on, when we were rather impatient for the check, he was seen leaning against a wall chatting with another server, holding the bill for about 5 minutes. No one glanced our way once during that period.

Can't find the website so I don't know the street address but it's where the Minokichi used to be, across from Miyake. The intersection is High Street and University.

If they can fix up their service and make the dishes more uniformly tasty, this is going to be a huge hit in Palo Alto with the yuppies. The town is in need of a higher end lounge like place. One late night meal there made Palo Alto feel almost urban.
