June 2016 Dish of the Month - Nominations Thread

meatn3 | May 18, 201609:06 AM     34

Greetings ladies and gents - step right up to the nomination thread of June 2016! Don't be shy - let your secret cooking desires run wild - there is no limit to the number of nominees you can make!

June brings a bounty of summer fruits and vegetables to most of our participating areas. Graduations, weddings and showers, Fathers Day (USA) and the Summer Solstice are swiftly coming in the next month.

What will you be cooking? Grilled goodies, fancy finger sandwiches for showers, make ahead hearty dishes for easy graduation festivities? Dishes that avoid heat in the kitchen? Picnic or patio dining favorites? It's time to brainstorm!

(Shameless cutting and pasting begins below.)

For those of you unfamiliar with the Home Cooking Dish of the Month (“DOTM”), our community selects a particular dish for each month and over the course of that month then posts about ideas, recipes, and experiences in cooking that dish. See the **starred** paragraphs below as to how we define a “dish” and the link to our list of prior dishes.

**What Makes a Dish**
A dish is loosely defined as an ingredient and a method of preparation. “Chocolate” or “beef” are not dishes. “Chocolate mousse” or “beef stew” are. You don’t have to be terribly specific; you can just nominate “tomato soup.” You don’t have to say “tomatoes chopped and simmered over low heat then puréed and poured into a bowl,” For some dishes, both the ingredients and the technique are implied, such as cassoulet, jambalaya, or this month’s DOTM, Pavlova.

**Prior DOTM Dishes**
DOTM has been going strong for over two years. We have covered 46 different dishes. We want to avoid selecting a dish for May that is a repeat of a dish done before. You can view the index of dishes here, and you are invited to make any of these dishes, and contribute to these threads at any time. http://www.chowhound.com/post/links-h...

**How to Nominate**
When you are ready to nominate a dish, or to second another’s nomination, please type the dish in ALL CAPITAL LETTERS. Nominations are counted by how many times they are written in capitals, so if you’re discussing a dish without nominating, or after nominating, please type it in lower case. Each Hound may nominate as many dishes as he/she likes.

Nominations will be open until Tuesday, May 24th, 11am Eastern time (8am Pacific time, and 3pm GMT). After the close, the dishes with the most nominations will move on to the voting thread where every person gets only one vote. Once the votes are tallied, the winning dish will be announced and there will be a thread where everyone can post reports and photos.
