It was chilly today, so craving something spicy I visited Julia's for lunch for the first time in a long while (Dupont Circle branch). The empanadas seemed different, smaller, flatter, and in the case of the Jamaican one I got, overwhelmed with one spice. It was as though the baker had absentmindedly tipped the spice jar while pining for a lost love or something. It was edible, but just. The Chilean was better, but sparse in its filling.
Has Julia's been going downhill lately? Are they trying to save money without raising prices? Is the Dupont one worse than others? Are there other empanada joints to recommend, especially in DC or metro-accessible parts of Arlington?
