Joy Luck Restaurant reopened friday, 11/4 with a a fresh coat of paint and probably new owners. (4th in the last 2 decades? overheard this)
no specials noticed. menu pricing looked slightly high for chitown, some are cheap. some higher than average.
cuisine is cantonese, not the hong kong/bobba drink offerings
eats: wor choy ($18) on back of menu, in chinese only
-braised bok choy
not choy sum (hearts) but the bigger ones. still fresh and crunchy
-peking style ribs
litebal use of A-1 sauce over fried skinny pork chops. addictive
-seafood with tofu soup
scallop pieces present with soft tofu, adding black pepper helped a lot
-string beans with beef
fresh sting beans with beef slices. above average
-1/2 order salted free range chicken (9ish)
chewy and kind of salty. never my fav but someone else likes.
-servings were generous
-service haphazard. couple of our dishes went to other tables first.
some dishes delivered to us that we didn't order
-good value if one orders right.
