I may owe everyone in Tulsa an apology. Over a year ago I was paid $100 to be in a focus group of customers of River Spirit Casino. I remember being quite vocal that the casino should not run most of its restaurants but should have outside vendors run them. I pointed out that the steakhouse Elements was vastly inferior to McGills (at the Hard Rock.) Fast forward a year and - guess what? River Spirit closed its steakhouse and now the burger joint Johnny Rockets has just had its grand opening. Somehow I wangled an invitation for me and my wife to the opening. The place is all bright primary colors and noise. Every half hour, the wait-staff do a little stomping dance (Michael Jackson's Rockin Robin is popular). We got to try the shakes and got pieces of several burgers. My chocolate malt seemed like a traditional malt - except it really did not taste of chocolate. The burgers were all just fine - I particularly liked one that was laced with jalapeno (though MacDonalds does one for $2). My wife and I split on the fries - she liked them - I thought they were bland and mealy and nowhere near as good as the fries at Five Guys. They also had sweet potato fries that were quite good. Overall verdict - go for the color and vibe - don't expect great food.
