We hemmed and hawed before deciding on the cheap and easy option right in front of us: Joey's Thai Cafe on Elm just before Davis Sq. We ordered two entrees for takeout, and they were ready in five minutes.
Surprise! It is very good. We ate Tom Yum Noodle Soup, which was a hearty spicy entree version of Tom Yum soup with wide rice noodles and tofu, and Pad Kee Mao, a spicy vegetable stir fry with fried tofu chunks. Total was $14.
I'd put it more in the clean and bright tasting family of Thai food, rather than the sultry stinky tangy family. In other words, it is safe and satisfying rather than transcendent. But safe and satisfying is pretty darn good for $7 a head. And fast! And they deliver!
