Joe's Shanghai (Flushing)

I' ve been reading a number of recent posts on various Chinese places in Flushing, most notably Brian S's always welcomed and knowledgeable take on them. I just wanted to add my comments on Joe's. Before Sun. I had only been to the Manhattan branch. Is it me or have the dumplings (soup buns) lost something? The last I was there was about 4 yrs ago. I had read posts saying yes they had declined in quality and yet it seemed there were just as many saying they were the same. I had taken a friend who had never been to any Shanghai rest and she loved them. They were good but not the stellar soup buns that I remembered. I have to say that the Crispy Whole Yellow Fish was excellent. And I am usually not a fan of sweet sauces but this was outstanding. Not alot of meat though :) We ordered a number of other dishes...The scallion pancake was addictive. Shanghai fried flat noodles were as good as they looked on the other tables and next time the same with seafood added will be the ticket. Minced Squid and Pork with jalapenos was just OK, fairly salty, and not as good as I had remembered it. The clams looked amazing as did numerous other dishes being brought out to the tables, but we had already ordered a bit too much. Overall Joe's did satisfy but Man!!!! If only those soup buns could have just been a bit more like they used to be.
