With the never ending posts about tipping and food servers, there are some questions that come to my mind.
In all service industry jobs there is a training period and skills that need to be developed in order to become a valued employee. In most service industry jobs there is on the job training that can last for years including some classroom time, before the employee is knowledgeable enough to be allowed to work with customers.
At fast food operations like McDonalds, Wendy's etc., they usually have a few weeks of some sort of training before they are really on their own, unsupervised. With in a few months their picture can be on the wall as "Employee of the Month"
My question is: What special training and skills are needed as a wait staff employee? I understand BOH needs to be knowledgeable in sanitation and sometimes need to be certified in such. What exactly does FOH need as training? Or can just about anyone walk in and start working and hope for the best?
