Jimmy's Seafood in Dundalk: AVOID

elr | Aug 25, 2003 10:45 AM

I just wanted to relate an awful experience with Jimmy's seafood on Dundalk Ave.

A friend has been raving about it as one of those quirky, out of the way places that I've been known to love, and he said they had great crabs. Well, the crabs were expensive, and they obviously weren't from MD, but from LA. (what a huge difference in taste!) There wasn't enough spice, and what there was was nothing special. But, the kicker is that these crabs were soaking wet! I mean, we squirted each other when we tried to crack them. When we complained to the waitress, she said there was nothing she could do since we had already eaten some. I asked to speak to the mgr, who looked like he was 12, and he only said that he wouldn't charge us for the crabs we hadn't eaten, and asked why we didn't say something when we first started eating them. I asked to speak to the owner--it wasn't Jimmy, who had recently died--and the owner never materialized.

In addition, we asked what could have caused the crabs to be so wet, and no one seemed to know. Finally, we waved down a cook who said that the steamer had been cleaning the crab steamer, and there was water left on the bottom, and that's why the crabs were soaking. Still, no one offered to make things right or even offered an apology.

With good crab houses so close by in Essex, there's really no reason for anyone to go to this dump!
