Jhelum, Pakistan - Halwa from Sweet Palace

klyeoh | Aug 20, 201410:18 PM

Jhelum in northern Punjab (Pakistan) is better known historically as the site of the Battle of the Hydaspes between the Macedonian armies of Alexander the Great and the Hindu armies of King Porus in 326 BC. Today, Jhelum, lying in-between the Pakistani capital, Islamabad, and the country's cultural capital, Lahore, hosts several manufacturing companies.

Sweet Palace on Railway Road is Jhelum's premier spot for Pakistani-style confection ("mithai"). My Jhelum-based colleagues' favourite appear to be this selection of "halwa" of various flavours:almond-raisin,saffron, coconut. Good, but *extremely* sweet!
