Here's the way restaurants lose loyal customers. I have gone to Jason's in Greenbrae frequently--probably 10 or more times in the last year. The food is pretty good. On my most recent visit, the hostess asked if I wanted an inside or outside table. It was a nice evening so I chose outside, where there were about 20 other people. I then watched servers wait on other tables for over 20 minutes. I might as well have been invisible since none paid any attention to me. Finally, I went inside and saw Jason, the owner, working in the open kitchen. I told him about the service issue and he promised to take care of it. I returned to my table and a few minutes later a waiter approached. "Finally," I thought and got ready to order. The waiter immediately said "You have to move inside because a private function is scheduled on the patio." No apology or explanation. I asked why the hostess seated me on the patio and about all the other people dining there. He said they had already ordered so they weren't a problem (which I would have done too if I hadn't been ignored for so long). I was pretty surprised that, instead of apologizing and fixing the service issue when I complained, they made it even worse. I told the waiter that if I were to move, it would be out the door and to another restaurant. Ultimately, they served me at my table. There was no sign of a private function. I have not gone back and probably never will---and they will never know why.
