Japanese tapas in Vancouver

Hi, I've been told that Japanese tapas is a good thing to sample in Vancouver. My question: Is this just basically another name for sushi, or are there lots of dumplings and other items? I ask because I am allergic to raw fish and cannot eat sushi. If there ARE other things and it's worth my while going, which places do you recommend for those staying downtown (near the cruise ships lines)? If it IS lots of raw fish, would I be better off going for dim sum in a Chinese restaurant, and which do you recommend? Please include streets and crossings if you have them. Thanks so much!
