Japanese food in O.C.

So we went to Oki Doki again last week for dinner on a Friday night and realized the place is not that great, kinda overrated honestly. (but just an opinion of course) My wife, a Japanese native and just came to this country two months ago, didn't think highly of that place. We commented that there were a lot of Japanese natives there that night, but most weren't eating but rather drinking. We have spoken to other Japanese and they have agreed that Oki Doki ain't that good, but when Honda-ya is brought up, everyone agrees that it tastes like something like you would get back in Japan. I like to always gauge Japanese food based on my experiences in Japan, I always ask my family and my wife. Here is a quick rundown of what we like:

Honda-ya

Santouka

Anjin

Fukada

Uoko

Sushi Riki (under the old ownership)

Marukai/Mitsuwa market

But I guess everyone's opinion is different. I've had two friends who lived here briefly in the states and one reason they stated for going back to Japan was that the Japanese food in America was "awful" so maybe none of our opinions matter :)

Just a thought
