I'm fairly well-versed in sushi, but I'm keenly interested in learning more about the rest of the Japanese cuisine. In particular, I'm interested in the kind of stuff that Japanese people eat in their homes, not so much the American restaurant stuff. I've been to a Japanese home where we had a very simple meal consisting of rice, steamed vegetables, fish--at first I thought it might be bland/boring, but in fact I loved it. So simple yet so good.
It's a difficult topic to search the interweb for, so I thought I'd ask the knowledgable hounds for a little 101.
What are some of the typical foods eaten in a Japanese household? Any recipes? Perhaps there exists a book (or cookbook) that I should purchase.
