Hi everyone,

On November, I spent 3 weeks travelling in Japan. My husband is a barista in Specialty Coffee, so we did try a few coffee shops there and bought some beans. We were looking for some light roasted coffees. We wanted to share a quick review with you guys.

Tokyo

The Roastery | Very nice customer experience, but the coffee beans were a bit too dark roasted for us.
Maruyama | It was a mistake. The filter coffee I got was awful. The coffee was way too dark.
Switch Coffee | Good coffees, the barista was really nice. Before buying beans, you can taste them freely done with French press.
Steamer Coffee Company | Roasting was very dark for us. If you like oil, this place is for you !
Deus Ex Machina | The barista is doing the show, but the coffee was average.
Fuglen | Best coffee roaster and best coffee shop of Japan along with the next one. Really nice staff. They have a golden Slayer. Both espresso and filter were really good. We also went to their cupping session and we had a such nice experience.
Glitch | One of our favorite coffee shops in Japan. My dripper coffee was delicious. A must-try !
Kabaya | The only kissaten-like we tried : coffee was average but the pastries were not bad.

Kyoto

Weekenders | Very kind owners, nice coffees.
Phalam | Nice baristas and the coffee was not bad.
Vermillion | The beans were from Weekenders. The barista wasn't communicative and the extraction should have been better.
% Arabica | Very popular place, long waiting line. Don't go there ! It is a complete joke, very dark roasting and nothing amazing.

Osaka

Lilo | Our filter was not good. You can choose different roasting levels, still, it was too roasted.
Elmersgreen in The park | Nicest staff ever, their espresso and their filter were good
Coutume | The barista was attentive to our feedbacks. The coffee was really good.
Takamura | Good espresso, passionate barista.

Hope this will help some coffee lovers looking for good coffee shops in Japan. : )
