jane-finch Sri Lankan take-out

fredveg | Apr 30, 2003 11:12 PM

There are two great and cheap Sri Lankan takeouts in the Jane-Fince vicinity.

Vimlika is in the shopping mall on the SE corner. Go down the stairs to the takeout counter. Terrific veggie food: puttu, kottu rotti, rice and curry. The dahl has browned onions in it which makes it extra terrific. The onion dhosa also has lots of onions, and the masala dhosa is quite spicy. The dhosas come with passable sambal and the best sambar I have ever had anywhere. We had all of the above plus sweets (enough to feed six generously) for $24.00. Plan on spending 1/2 hour waiting for the food, but it is worth it.

Ammon Food is in a small strip mall a couple of blocks south, also on the east side, just north of the Shell station. Similar amounts of food for a similar amount of money, all very good and the best sambal I have ever had: fresh tasting and indescribably delicious.
