Went there this past Thursday nite and was thoroughly disappointed in the quality of bbq served there. It's actually more of a small coffee shop that supposedly serves authentic smoked bbq. No way, not a chance. No smoke ring, bland sauce, chewy tough baby back ribs, undercooked chicken and a very boring hot link. It was more like a semi-spiced hot dog. I don't believe they have a pit smoker on premise, probably have one of those little woodchip smokers. The coffee shop menu might be OK but I can't say the same about the bbq.
Claim Jumper in Monrovia has some decent bbq but it's pricey. A bit east in Glendora is Bam Bam BBQ and it's pretty good. At least you can smell some smoke as you enter to front.
In fairness I did visit Jakes about 3 years ago when it was a walk up counter operation and went by the name of Crazy Jakes Woodfire BBQ. It was quite good and recommendable. The new owners should stick to the coffee shop fare and can the "Q".
