Had a really enjoyable meal at Jake's Famous Kansas City Style BBQ in Brooklyn. Let me first claim complete and utter ignorance in the area of "authentic" BBQ. All I know is I had some damn fine meat on Sunday.
Luke and I chose the "Assortment of Bar-B-Q Meats," a meat lovers dream that includes brisket, pulled pork and baby back ribs. It also comes with either cornbread or buttermilk biscuits, and your choice of two sides. Side choices: home fries, mashed potatoes, cole slaw, potato salad, macaroni salad, green salad or hot veggies. All this for a mind boggling $16.95.
The cornbread arrived with the hugest proportional slab of butter that I've ever seen. It was probably as big as the cornbread. The cornbread was moist, sweet (but not too sweet) and the butter was of course a perfect compliment.
Next came the mound of meat.
Brisket was wonderful. A great rich taste, although not smokey. This was my favorite of the three meats.
The ribs were also quite good. Luke and I do not like to eat meat on the bone, but these ribs had us wolfing them down.
The pulled pork was the only ho-hum meat in the punch. Fatty with not as much flavor as the brisket or ribs, it paled in comparison to the other two.
The sides were kind of generic Boston Market sides: good, but nothing to travel an hour out of your way for...

It's kind of remote, on the Brooklyn waterfront. We took the B61, which zooms right by it.
