I am lately going back home to Maine every weekend. And between visits to my favorite restaurants, I've been searching for the Italian Sandwich of my youth.
I've tried a bunch of them from Biddeford to Portland, but most come close, but not quite make it. Some will use rubbery california olives, or not quite doughy enough bread, or even wonder-type rolls with a crust.
If anyone will share their favorite, I'd appreciate it. My guess is that it is made by a little old lady at a neighborhood grocery store...
