Italian Restaurants -- Is there anything out there???

Josh | Jul 19, 2004 12:21 PM

Have tried many Italian kosher places, with little success.

Domani: Found the portions very small, the veal, somewhat dry, and the sauces to be bland. The fresh pasta was okay. Overall, not close to deserving of its high prices.

Va Bene: An upscale looking place that serves very classic Italian preparations. Loved the matzo/bread basket. Pastas, on the other hand were weak. Service was horrible. When I paid cash (no Amex), they took my money, and assumed I had given them a 40% tip. Had to go to the cashier to get my money back and watch her dig through the receipts. Would not go back.

Gusto va Mare: Best of what's still around. Pesto sauce was good, pasta was good. Red sauce was still weak. Cheese was cookie-cutter.

Sopranos: Closed. Had the best Italian. Loved the veal dishes. Pastas were made well, although the sauces were never amazing.

Anything else???
