Italian ices?

Karla J | Apr 19, 2002 12:29 PM

In Long Island, NY, there are tons of places you can buy Italian ices. When I was growing up they basically came in the a few flavors (lemon, cherry, rainbow) and you bought them at pizza joints out of a paper cup that you squeezed to eat them.

Nowadays, when I go back to visit, there are stores devoted to Italian ices alone (a great chain called "Ralph's") an endless variety of flavors (but only open in the Summer). Every fruit under the sun for water ices. They have "creme" ices too that are every flavor of ice cream - cheesecake, pistacio, strawberry daiquiri, etc. They have incredible flavor but are not ice cream.

Does this exist anywhere in the Boston area? I have not yet found them, but maybe I am not looking in the right place...
