I'm planning a special anniversary dinner. My girlfriend and I have done the rounds at Gramercy, Daniel, Jean Georges, etc., but we haven't tried a great Italian restaurant in New York and she loves Italian. We are both pescavegetarians (we eat seafood but not other meat). The two options that I was thinking of are Babbo and L'Impero. I've heard great things about both. The Babbo pasta tasting menu looks great and fairly veggie friendly. The only downside is that the earliest reservation I can get is 10pm, perhaps a bit late to start a tasting menu. L'Impero, I'm told, has very interesting cheeses and accompaniments. We love cheese. Does anyone have an opinion between these two or think I'd be better off at Lupa, Scalini, Il Mulino, or some other NY Italian?
