Istanbul Ingredient Mystery

simive01 | Mar 26, 2012 05:56 AM

I have just returned from Istanbul I have a question regarding a herb/spice/bean/tea that I saw whilst wandering past the shops in the Faith district at the end of Itfaiye Caddesi. We had just had a very yummy lunch of Buryan Kebab and Perde Pilavi and decided to wander past the butchers, bakers and other vendors.
Out the front of a number of the spice/dry goods stores in large sacks was a green/blue, what looked like a seed or possibly a flower. Poor planning made sure that my camera battery was dead so I cannot even give you a name, i think it started with M. It definitely wasn't a standard green peppercorn as it did not have Biber in the name and I did not see it in the mainstream spice shops or Spice Bazaar, nor has Google been my saviour as I do not necessarily know what I am searching for.

Unfortunately the food nerd in me is restless...any help would be appreciated.
