ISO Pork Shanks for Osso Bucco?

zackly | Oct 20, 201807:29 AM

My local supermarket, Shoprite , here in Norwalk, CT had pork shanks on sale this summer. Now, commodity pork shanks should be very inexpensive, say about $1.99 lb. but I can't find them in any local supermarket so now I have to go to a butcher. The butcher shops around here cater mostly to a well healed crowd so I'm sure they will be very expensive and probably heritage breeds or organic. For me that defeats the purpose of cooking a low cost meal. I'm sure the veal osso bucco @ Costco would be cheaper. Do supermarkets in your area carry commodity pork shanks? What do they charge for them?
Thanks!
