ISO help and ideas for Sun night, mod $, Grad dinner

Hi SF! I've been tasked by my family - as the resident CH and most invested in final outcome -for choosing a dinner locale to celebrate my sister's graduation from Hastings in May. It's a Sunday night.

I'm not that familiar with SF, having travelled there only sporadically, and frequently gone to sub-par eateries because of time or location constraints.

Can you rec a place that is really representative of SF at its best, within the following parameters? We'll have a group of 10. This includes a large number of people who appreciate good chow, but also 2 kids (6 and 2 - moderately well behaved) and grandpa, who is a less adventurous eater, and likes things pretty plain. Sis lives in the Marina, so somewhere between there and Hastings is ideal. I'm targeting about $20-25 pp food only. I think it's safest with the group to stick with regional/american/california cuisine rather than go ethnic.

Last time we were there, everyone had a blast at SPQR (based on recs from you guys), but the no res policy won't work this time. We also loved Zuni, but it's a bit pricier than I'm shooting for, and I don't know if they have space for a large group. On a positive note, my 2 yr old was an angel there last time - quiet as a mouse while we ate, peeling crayons :)
