ISO advice on cooking already corned beef

Deborah R. | Mar 16, 201707:39 AM

Hello -- For the first time in my life, I decided to celebrate St. Patrick's Day. I had hoped to corn a brisket, but was unable to find the right cut from the accessible supermarket, so I ended up purchasing an already corned tip point. It comes with a spice packet, which it says you can add if desired.

I have no idea if that is desirable. I even called the manufacturer, and they told me the ingredients in the packet were proprietary (!). So ... does anybody have any experience with this? If I add the packet, will I improve the flavor, or just end up with something that tastes more artificial than I'm afraid the meat will already taste. If I don't use the packet, are there spices I might add that would give a better result? FWIW, I will be ultimately cooking potatoes, carrots and cabbage with the meat.

Thank you.
