Island Burger agony

I'm a huge fan of the food at Island Burger (9th Ave. btw. 51st and 52nd), but MAN, the place has become unbearable in the past six months or so -- a classic case of a restaurant becoming too popular for its own good. During lunch or dinner hours, wait times for food now range up to half an hour (and while their food is tasty, it's not THAT tasty), provided, that is, that you can wedge your way in the door, snag a table, and get the attention of their overworked, irritable waitstaff of two. It's probably too much to expect them to expand to a bigger location (or even open an Island Burger To Go satellite), but it seems to me that the least they could do is hire a few more waiters. I'm at the point now where unless I'm eating at a really odd time (4 PM, say, or 9:30 PM), I'll steer well clear of the place.

Anyone else had similar experiences there? And any tips for less-crowded, equally good places in the same general area would be much appreciated.
