Isaki at Sushi Ran

Husky | Jun 13, 2008 09:39 AM

Sushi Ran was excellent as usual the other night and when they ran out of Kanpachi (Amberjack), our server recommended Isaki (Japanese Grunt fish) - to be honest, the name Grunt did not sound appetizing to me, but the Isaki was delicious. I tasted a hint of cinnamon in the fish and when I mentioned it to my table mates, they thought I was crazy -- but they noticed it as well once they tried the Isaki. If I'm not mistaken, Isaki is one of the fishes that Sushi Ran flies in from the main Tokyo fish market.

Also learned that the only Asahi beer in the U.S. that is still brewed in Japan is the large cans (approximately 1 liter)...the bottles and smaller cans are brewed by Molson in Canada.
