*** Invitation to Curry-diving: Gujarati Sunday Dinner in SF ***

Melanie for the Masala Hounds | Jun 29, 200402:35 PM

Curry lovers are hot on the trail of the new Gujarati specials offered on Sunday evenings at one of the Tandoorloin's favorite Indian restaurants.

Final details and the specific Sunday date are being worked out by the chowhoundin' Kumars. The menu format will be a vegetarian Gujarti Thali: Bhajia (Ghujarti vegetable tempura, for lack of a better description), bhindi-bataka sak (okra-potato stew), bhengan bharta (Eggplant, but gujarti-style with yogurt), puri (puffy fried bread), daal (lentils), bhat (rice), kadhi (a yogurt sauce that goes with rice and daal), some type of sweet, raita, kachumber (salad), pappadums, and chutneys. The menu will vary based on what's good in the market that week. Cost should be about $15 per person, plus tax, tip and beverages. Plus, we'll pass the hat to collect a GoodWill donation for ($5 per person suggested).

Note for those with peanut allergies, the cuisine is heavy with peanuts.

Space is extremely limited. If you would to attend, please email "Janet in Reno" at for more details as they evolve.

There are several more venues – Alhamra, Udupi Palace, Mehfil, Essence of India, Kabana, Saroor, Vik’s, Mughal (formerly Bar B Q Tonite), etc. – that we’re interested in adding to the chowdown series. We’re in need of hosts to help put these together. If you’d like to volunteer to organize an outing to one of these restaurants or another favorite, please contact Melanie Wong,, to schedule a slot on the curry-diving calendar.

This is a private, volunteer assisted event. No agency relationship, express or implied exists between any parties and Chowhound, Inc. This is not a Chowhound, Inc. sponsored event.
