I am constantly amazed that a county with one of the highest average incomes in the nation has such a paucity of (non-restaurant) food choices.
One has to travel outside of the county to get to a Trader Joes, Wegmann's or Whole Foods. It seems as thought most of the "gourmet" food stores are not worth five minutes of browsing time, more glorified delis with a few dusty bottles of roasted peppers and jellies.
There are a few specialized vendors (meats, cheese, coffee etc.) I have found (mostly thanks to your postings on Chowhound), but I am looking for an "all-in-one" store -- if one exists.
Does anyone have any suggestions for good food stores either within Hunterdon or within a reasonable distance (half-hour or so)?
