After having been out of the loop for a while I ventured out of town and went to Nevada City with a friend.
We followed our noses, going after something that was smelling real good.. we ended up at a small restaurant on Commercial Street " Ike's Quarter Cafe."
Outside is a very cute patio area for seating in good weather, the inside of the place is cute and funky, decorated with posters, beads and some New Orleans photos, of course the music played on the system is Louisiana music.
The owner Ike and his wife Adrienne have created a great ambiance, the menu offered New Orleans type food, but with a healthy twist.
My friend had the red beans and rice, collard greens with a touch of Ginger and a piece of Cornbread, she loved it and let me taste it as well.I also liked it.
I had Cheese Grits, eggs with Debris and an Abita Amber, one of the beers found in New Orleans.
Usually I don't have eggs and beer, however I just had to have it, to remind me of being back in the Big Easy..
For those of you not hip to Debris: it is the meat that just falls of a roast, after it is done to perfection, you know, the good stuff...
In the case of my breakfast the Debris consisted of pieces of ham, bacon and sausage.
It was tasty and there was enough meat for me to share with my friend.
I was not able at this time to sample the Gumbo or the Po Boy sandwiches because I was full, but I will go back and slowly eat my way through the menu.
I suppose I got kick started again by hanging out with the Hounds for the Carnita run...thanks...
