Ok lots of slander out there - I (and I believe the owners) took it all to heart and have re-vamped. Our food tonight was amazing, the service was impeccable (as someone who use to waitress I'm kinda extra picky about my service), and the value was outstanding for here in Calgary.
Started with basic drinks - in the end 3 glasses of wine only cost me 18 dollars... and it was better white then I usually get on 17 Ave, hubby had Sapporo draft - a favorite beer, served properly and tasted fresh. Also a great light balance to lots of flavour in the food.
Shared the ribs(19) and the crackling chicken (22)... not sure which was better - only complaint was too much food especially for price... but tomorrow when I eat it for lunch I will not complain. We were chatting with the staff - they noted they have had some chef turn-over already - maybe that is why previous reviews have been too salty and not great? Cause they were flawless tonight. There is a lot of taste in the dinners - if your a meat and potato person with only butter and salt it might not be for you - but if you enjoy flavourful food with a Korean/Mexican influence - this is the place for you.
Dessert was the ice cream sandwich (7), we tried to send it back thinking we had been over-served (really) no - you get 4 home made cookies, ice cream and hand made whip cream for 7 dollars.... I have heard the measure of a good cook can be the patience to make good whipped cream by hand.... the cook tonight did not disappoint.
Entire dinner with plenty of drinks was under 100 dollars - for us an exceptional night out. Next time can't wait to try the tacos (now beef instead of the blogged about calamari) and the burrito... can't wait to report back and have no fears we will disappointed... waitress suggested the grilled cheese and the pad thai - guess that will be the third trip... or fourth after the brunch - they did win best pancakes on 4th street during stampede... but I worry red velvet pancakes will be too sweet for me!
