The Infinitely Adaptable Burrito

The recent thread about adding French Fries to burritos sparked a memory from about 15 years ago.

At that time, my family had become acquainted with a group of boys and girls (okay, young men and women), aged about 17 to 22, who had newly immigrated from Zacatecas, and who were all living together in a small flat in San Diego's Barrio Logan while trying to get a start here. They had very little money, and were sending most of that to their parents, so they ate on the cheap -- to put it mildly.

Anyway, one day I stopped into their place and found the oldest boy, Chuy, boiling up a packet of those dirt-cheap Ramen noodles. When it was done, he strained the broth into a cup to drink, but then he dumped the noodles onto a flour tortilla, slathered on some kind of lethal, Southeast Asian hot sauce, and rolled it up. I don't know if he was the one who invented the Top Ramen Burrito, but after that I'd have to say that French Fries are one of the less imaginative burrito fillings I've heard of.
