It's nearly fruitcake weather--which means postings about the infamous, elusive Black Cake. Laurie Colwin fans know what I mean--but a few years ago, a West Indian woman posted her grandmother's recipe here, and it sounded great and tried-and-tested. But where to find the necessary burnt sugar essence? I've looked in numerous stores but never seen it. Anyone know of a place that carries it in Manhattan or Brooklyn? Thanks!
