I posted earlier about a place to eat in Madison and while I got many great suggestions, they arrived after we had made our trip. However, we did eat at a great Indonesian restaurant (touted as the only one in WI -- surprised??) Anyhow it was a great place. Nice atmosphere and very friendly service, fresh and flavorful food made us feel right at home. For appetizer, we sampled the Opor Ayam soup -- so good and very flavorful (a word I will no doubt use often in this posting). It had a coconut broth base with strips of chicken, potato, lemon grass and bamboo shoots.
The Nasi Goreng Kemangi is a fried rice with many veggies and meat of your choice (we had chicken). Was my intro to the candle nut. The Bakmi Gorenge is an Indonesian fried noodle dish with a very nicely flavored ginger sauce we enjoyed it very much. For dessert we had a cleansing lon gan fruit on ice. Very fresh flavor kind of like pineapple crossed with grape with no acidity.
Prices are inexpensive. HIghly recommended!
