Indochine Dinner Report (long)

4 of us had dinner their on Sunday night and really liked it. We had the pre-theater pre-fixe. A great bargain at $25 per person. Great selections to choose from too: 6 apps, 5 entrees, 4 desserts if you don't count the different flavors and coffee or tea. Portions were large, we were very happy and stuffed afterwards.

Apps: grilled eggplant, 6 small shrimp atop of shredded daikon and carrots, summer rolls – vegetables and king crab w/ black bean sauce on the side, Vietnamese ravioli – long strips of rice flour w/ shredded vegetables and minced pork inside. This was bland, but there was a sweet sauce (some type of duck sauce) on the side.

Entrees: Baby back ribs which were very flavorful, I never like the bbq baby back ribs w/ sauce all over it, this one was dry, but obviously marinated before cooking because there was a great flavor to each bite. Duck breast over Asian greens (not sure which greens, menu called it this), Shrimp with some other type of greens which was overcooked, very dry and paper thin, and each dish came with sticky Vietnamese rice which had some pork or plain steamed white rice. Of course, we had 2 of each. I loved the sticky rice, very flavorful and sticky.

Desserts: hazelnut mousse cake, chocolate truffle cake w/ fresh whipped cream, green tea ice cream and guava sorbet. The cakes were very good, ice cream flavorful, but the sorbet, talk about sour and tart. One bite was enough for me, especially with the other sweet choices at the table.

Service was fine, they asked us if we were pre-theater and brought us the check before dessert came out so we could leave as soon as we were finished. We told them that we were sharing everything and they automatically brought out plates for each of us for the apps and then for the entrees and placed all dishes in the middle family style.

Food presentation was very nice. I would definitely recommend this place for the pre-fixe. I just wish we had more time. We were slightly rushed w/ only 1.5 hours for dinner.
