Actually, I've been in Bloomington for a number of years but I get up to Indy often enough to be a little curious of others opinions.
1) El Sol de Tala.
Last time I was there it was...well...lets say the word I would like to use is equally valid for describing a particular equine and the posterior sitting region of a biped... I know good Mexican - I also know what "real" Mexican is supposed to be (GF is from El Paso, TX - we get across the border now and then when we visit). What I had at ESdT approached neither (unless the food was so grease soaked as to make the original construct unrecognizable). Mind you, when I was there I was with 15 other people who all had pretty much the same opinion - all had heard of the "authentic" reputation - we all had a rather wide diversity of dishes - and all were rather surprised at how truly bad it was (this is the near-east side location - call it April 2003 sometime).
Did we catch the joint on a real bad night? Was the owner not paying attention while he was getting the Depot location up and running? Any opinions on the Depot location? Should I bother giving the depot a try?
Been there three times - each have been outstanding and rather authentic to me (Siam House in Bloomington is good but I think I prefer Sawasdee in Indy). I have *not* been to the Thai Cafe in Indy yet so maybe I'm missing a good chunk of the picture here. The reviews on Sawasdee have been nothing less than great (minus the Nuvo one) yet opinion on this board is mixed...
I guess I'm looking for few more opinions here...
