I'm interested in kicking off the upcoming weekend with a proper breakfast of halwa puri chole (fried bread, chickpea stew, and carrot halwa), doodh patti (tea brewed with milk), and egg paratha (fried bread cooked with egg). I read that both Chutny and Abshaar have offered these items in the past, but don't know if that's still the case. And I'm definitely open to other places in the area. Are these items generally off-menu or can I expect to see them listed somewhere? Also, it would be helpful to know a good time range of the morning to seek them out.
I popped into Abshaar one time, but was underwhelmed by the appearance of their buffet and mithai. Though I know that it's far better to judge a place by its made-to-order items, my gut feeling was that I would regret eating there. If that assumption is incorrect, then I'm willing to be set straight.
I've also checked out Chutny, but they had a pretty sad looking buffet even relative to some of the other sad looking buffets in Brookfield Plaza. Nevertheless, I've read some good things about them and am still interested in ordering off their menu, particularly for the aforementioned breakfast items.
I can handle dives. In the past, I've been a big fan of Shiney's for their made-to-order savories and, of course, their mithai and kulfi. I'm also a huge fan of the buffet at Hot Bakes 'n' Cakes, though a fire in their section of the shopping center has put them out of commission for now (hopefully not permanently). In fact, the latter event has forced me to branch out to Niralla, which has some surprisingly good options that I will discuss in a subsequent post.
