Indian Cuisine - Great Food & Value

treb | Apr 5, 2017 01:05 AM

It was wet and cold yesterday, I was craving some warmly spiced Indian food for lunch. Ended up at Zaika Indian Bistro in Woburn, I was near the area.

Note: One thing I hate about buffets, in general, is that the food is never kept hot enough in those chaffing warmers.

The lunch offerings had a section for salad and some fruit, yogurt etc. There were about 6 warm entrees including rice. I opted for the mutton curry with peas and mushrooms, chili chicken, tikka chicken, kofta curry and fish pakora.

First the naan was freshly made to order, it had a nice chew with just the right amount of char on the top.

The mutton curry was excellent with the mushrooms. The chili chicken was somewhat spicy, having to accommodate many palates, it can't be wild. the tikka was average, kofta curry very flavorful and nicely spiced and the fish was excellent, on the 2nd go around.

Example; about my thoughts on buffets. When I sampled the fish the 1st time it was barely warm and flavorless. The 2nd time it just came out from the kitchen and was hot, crisp and tasty, very good.

Overall, the service was good, the server filled my water glass several times.

The best part is the price, $8.95 for lunch during the week, a real value play for the quality of the food.

Any great Indian places you've been to lately.

Post away!
