India Independence Festival - longish

Michele Cindy | Aug 9, 2004 03:07 PM

Went to the India Independence Day festival in Valhalla yesterday. I was a bit put off by the way the price of the food changed at one stand for 3 different people. 1st, I went to get a plain dosa for my kids. I should have asked the price 1st. I asked for just the plain pancake. The guy said $5.00. I said how much is it if I ordered the filling too? $5.00... So I got the filling on the side... While getting the dosa I saw 2 women order julabes (?), I know I'm way off spelling wise, they're the fried dough looks kind of like a funnel cake, but has a honey filling. They're really good. The guy told them they were 3 for $2.00. I figured I'd go back and get them after the dosa. I go back for the julabes, a women in front of me gives the guy .50 for one. I ask how much are they? The guy says 3 for $5! I told him, you just gave this women 1 for .50, before they were 3 for $2, he said oh - they were donations... He then just hands me 7 for $3.00... In the end it was worth the hassle, they were really good.
