Ugh. Why oh why can't legal seafoods be as good as it was when I was just a misguided midwesterner in the big city, and legals was my place for lobster and the best food/service around. I try and try again, yet each time I go now and for the past 4 years, I am more and more frustrated and convinced that I will never return (and I won't, on my own tab).

Ate at the Legals in Burlington Mall last night with a party of 8. First of all, they were out of the soft shell crabs, which really put me off. I didn't want to get a lobster, because, being the lobster snob that I am, I didn't want to order a large one because of the price, and didn't want to order a small one because it wouldn't be enough. Not to mention the fact that previous lobsters that I've ordered there have been sub-par as of late. SO, no soft shell crabs, no lobster. I had no idea what to get other than the chowdah and the rolls. I toyed with the idea of getting a bowl of chowdah, and the blackened raw tuna sashimi appetizer, which, is great. This is what I should have done. Instead, I ventured to order the crab cake combo- mistake. This came with 4 shrimps, 4 scallops and a good sized crab cake, surrounded by drizzled mustard sauce. The shrimp were fine, nothing special. The scallops had no character. The crab cake was awful. Like someone took dried out crab meat and mixed it together with stove top dressing (which I like sometimes) but without any of the salty seasonings or any moistness to speak of. Second most annoying part, besides the crabs: I ordered the asparagus side dish, as did everyone else. My 5 stalks come alone on this small dish, completely overcooked, scrawny and pale just sitting there withering. Everyone else's are healthy green looking stalks looking crisp and ready to be eaten. Grrr.

Service was incompetent as usual, mixing up dishes and drinks. (I was seated next to my friend and her boyfriend, who both ordered the sauvignon blanc, while I ordered a Sam Adams. Of course, the waitress still brought the Sam Adams to the boyfriend and gave me wine- Grrrrrr).

Ugh. So disappointing. I'm still irked that they didn't have soft shell crabs. Something about the shipment in DC getting held up because of quality control... I guess I should be grateful, but really I'm still just irked. I think I'm gonna hit up Dok Bua today to try and mitigate the situation...
