Il Tartufo

David De Silva | May 13, 2002 09:38 AM

I took my wife to Il Tartufo in Manayunk yesterday for Mother's Day and had a nice meal. The atmosphere is kinda sparse but the large windows in front allow you to watch what's going on outside as you eat.

Il Tartufo is a simple Italian-Jewish restaurant that serves tasty food. We split the four-cheese Gnocchi ($14) as an appetizer, it was good. We both ordered the same veal entree ($17) which was done in a brandied-cream sauce with little roasted veggies on the side. It was a very heavily sauced dish with almost too much (very tender) veal to eat, again it was very good. While the bottle of Valpolicella ($24) we ordered was good, it's still very frustrating for me to know that I'm paying a good triple mark up. Total with wine came to $77. What you'll find here are traditional, basic, well done dishes that are inexpensive and taste good.
