Il Mulino Bakery - Lenten treats in Highwood

North Surburban living: Lenten Pastries

I stopped this morning at Il Mulino Bakery hoping to find Zeppole. They were out of Zeppole, but more were expected tomorrow. So I have my order in for one baked and one fried Zeppole, filled alternately with custard and cannoli cream.

Immediately available were Polish Paczki filled either with custard, strawberry or apricot. I bought an apricot which I cut in half at the filled hole. Ratio of apricot to dough: 1:10 -- I spread the apricot over the cut edge and ate it.

In the display case was an Italien party dessert: very large cannoli (18 inches long x 8 inches diameter) filled with regular filled cannollis. They also had a single cannoli dessert which could serve 4 people. Cute.
